A look back at Global Awareness 2015

It's been quite a journey.  Classes worked hard to make an impact on GLPS and the world by raising awareness about a topic that mattered to them.  We thank you and congratulate you for all of your hard work.  We hope you will continue to be the leaders of tomorrow making changes today!

Say it with a T-shirt!

Class 23 had a great time designing T-shirts to wear for their Global Awareness Performance on Thursday evening.  The T-shirt is a lasting reminder of their campaign and the changes they are hoping to make.  Wear it proudly!

Posters

Class 23 made a poster to advertise their campaign. Thank you for the hard work Min-Sik & Sean!

Dead Health Society Presents...

Here is the script for the final performance.  It is an Eater's Anonymous group meeting to demonstrate the effects of junk food on our health.

Script

MC Opening: Sean (standing on stage right)

Good evening ladies and gentlemen.  My name is Sean and tonight our class would like to present about eating disorders. Our class 23, chose this topic because there are so many causes of eating disorders in the world.  We named our campaign “Dead Health Society” and focused on obesity.  Today, we are going to present the Eater’s Anonymous Support group meeting with Stella, Lucy, Max and Sophie.  Let’s give them a round of applause! (Clap)

(Junk food group sit in center of stage, on the green line)

Pizza (Yoon): Hello! My name is Stella.  I really, really love pizza.  Pizza is the most delicious food in the world.  The combination of cheese and tomato paste with bread is fantastic! But, since I ate pizza too much I became so fat.  I can’t go more than 4 hours without pizza! My weight is increasing every day.  What should I do?

Hamburger (Rosie)- Hi, I’m Lucy.  I am totally love hamburgers. Every day I eat hamburgers.  I like hamburgers better than a healthy meal.  I wanted to change this habit however I don’t think vegetables taste good.  These days I find myself getting fatter and fatter.  How can fix this problem?

French Fries (Kyle)- Hi, my name is Max.  I have a serious habit of eating many french fries.  Whenever I go somewhere I always want to eat french fries.  I eat so much and I don’t exercise.  I hate exercising!  I once started playing soccer but it was so hard to run.  It was like climbing a mountain.  I get so tired and I sweat a lot.  If I sweat a lot I get all sticky and awwwwww, I just hate it!

Cola (Doyi)- Hi, my name is Sophie.  I drink too much coke.  I want to stop but I cannot.  I am literally addicted to coke.  Coke is so yummy.  I know Coke is bad for my health and I try to drink milk or water.  However, it doesn’t work.  I am so short because I drink way too much coke.  I easily get stressed, get headaches and etc.  I really need your advice!

Min-Sik- Now let’s hear from our nutritionists. (standing on stage right)

At this point, the junk food group stands up, Kyle & Doyi move to the left and trade places with Noah and Jin.  Rosie and Yoon move right and trade with Na-Yeon and Sol.  The 4 healthy foods, sit down.

Nutritionist 1 Hyo-Young (center stage, microphone)- Many people know that 1 burger set is over 900 calories.  According to McDonald’s, there are some foods that have less than 900 calories .  But do you know that this does not include the calories of the sauces? So if you eat one burger set it has over 900 calories.  The ideal number of calories for men is 2500 a day and for women is 2000 a day.  The information is from e how.

Nutritionist 2 (Yoo-Jung) (center Stage microphone)- Healthy food is good for your body because it has vitamins and nutrients.  For example, broccoli and salads.  These good foods go inside your body and are helping your body grow and stay healthy.  Eating good food is good for you. Salads, eat it, sugar beat it!

MC Meeting (Eun- Hye) (stage right)- Hello ladies & gentlemen.  My name is Eun-Hye.  I’m the second MC for this performance.  The nutritionists talked about how the junk food lovers should behave to save their health.  It’s now 6 months later and let’s meet them again.  I’m sure you will be surprised at their results.

(Sitting in the center of stage on the green line)

Vegetables (Sol)- Hi! Do you remember me? It’s me Stella.  I stopped eating pizza and other junk food and tried to eat healthy food like veggies & fruits. Now I turned into a veggie bowl from pizza! I feel so much better.

Salad (Na- Yeon)- Hello, my name is Lucy.  Six months ago, I was really unhealthy, fat and ugly.  I don’t want to remember that! Can you guys see the difference now? What happened to me? Beat it fast food, eat it healthy food.  No sugar, Yes salad! I really hate hamburgers now because although there is lettuce, it is not fresh like salad.

Baked Potato (Noah)-Do you remember me, the boy who had a serious habit of eating too many french fries 6 months ago? Just in case you forgot,, my name is Max.  I changed so much over the last 6 months. Now I don’t eat French fries.  However I eat healthy baked potatoes. Also, I exercise almost every day. When I said last time exercising is like climbing up a hill, now it’s like going down a hill!

Water (Jin)- Hi my name is Sophie. I used to drink a lot of coke so I was becoming fatter and fatter.  One day my doctor told me to stop drinking coke or else I will have a lot of diseases.  I I tried really hard to stop and every time I want to drink coke I drank a lot of water instead. Also I exercised so I became taller. Water helped me to become healthy and avoid coke.  Right now still I’m trying to drink less coke and more water.

Song Presenter Min-Sik (stage right)- Good evening ladies and gentlemen.  Now I’d like to present to you our song, a parody of “See you Again”.  The title is “Work out Again”. Myself and Dong-bin Won, who is not here to join us today, wrote the lyrics.  It is about an obese boy who is love with junk food who notices himself in a mirror and tries to exercise again.  We also posted the video on You Tube and you can watch it on our class blog.  Now we would like to sing a part of our song for you.  I hope you enjoy it!

Whole Class: (singing)

So let the gym guide your way, yeah
Hold every memory as you go
And every number you weigh, will always lead you fit,fit

[All]
It's been a long day without you, my health
And I'll show you all I did when I work out again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll show you all did when I work out again
When I work out again

MC Closing (Na-Gyeong)- Hello my name is Na-Gyeong to announce our ending.  So ladies and gentlemen, first we want to thank you for teaching us so that we can stand here.  We just showed you a performance about teenage obesity.  We’ve been working on this topic every day in Global Awareness, we worked very hard so we give congratulations to all who helped us and also to ourselves.  We hope you all enjoyed our performance. Let’s always eat healthy and be happy.  Please clap for the Dead Health Society.  Thank you very much!

Na-Yeon- Dead Health Society Campaign hopes you will become healthy again! Thank you!   (All class bows) Exit stage in a line (stairs)

FLASHMOB

Class 23 bravely shared their campaign with the unsuspecting GLPS camp in the cafeteria at lunch on Saturday.  While everyone was busy eating their lunch, Class 23 jumped up and shared a parody they made of the popular song "Sugar" and changed the lyrics to "Salad".

What a great way to spread their "Dead Health Society" campaign.  Please watch the video below:

Here are the lyrics:
Sugar
No, thanks
Won’t you change it to some salad now
It’s right here ‘cause I need
Little fat and lot of salad now
Yeah you show me some good foods
Make it aright
Need a lot of fitness in my life
Salad
Yes, please

Won’t you come and put it down on me
